Traumatic Brain Injury Symptoms

On Behalf of | Feb 17, 2017 | Personal Injury |

If you suspect you are suffering from a Traumatic Brain Injury (“TBI”) after an accident, contact Michalk, Beatty & Alcozer, L.P., even if you haven’t been diagnosed yet. If you are still under the care of a physician, but have not yet been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury, you may want to discuss your symptoms with your doctor so that you may receive a proper diagnosis. Symptoms may include:

  • Repeated nausea or vomiting
  • A headache that won’t go away
  • Slurred speech
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Not being able to wake up from sleeping
  • Dilated eye pupils
  • Numbness and/or weakness in your arms and legs

When you discuss these symptoms with your doctor, he or she should give you a neurological exam and take imaging tests to determine if your symptoms are being caused by a TBI. The treatment you receive will depend on the severity of the brain injury. Some treatments may last for life, while some a short time, and may include rehabilitation.

If your insurance runs out because of the length of time you may need treatment, you will need funds to pay for such treatment. You’ll also need to replace the income you lost if you cannot work due to the TBI.

Causes of Traumatic Brian Injury

TBIs can be caused by a vehicle accident, a slip-and-fall or any other accident where you may have hit your head. If the cause of the injury is due to an accident, the person who caused the accident may be liable for your medical bills, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, and in wrongful death cases, the loss of companionship.

It is always important to see a doctor after an accident, even if you think you feel fine. You may have a concussion that could lead to brain injury, and may not realize it at the time. Once you get checked out by your doctor, be sure to keep copies of your medical records in the event that you start experiencing the symptoms of TBI.
