Risky roads in the Lone Star State

Statistics indicate that there were more than 3,400 combined accidents that resulted in at least one death from the top five counties in the state. This was more than one-third of all the fatal accidents in the state from 2018 to 2020. Of those five counties, Harris County saw the highest number of crashes at 1,221, and I-45 was the deadliest road in the county. Other roads in Texas where a high number of deadly accidents occur include:

  • I-30
  • I-20
  • I-410
  • I-10
  • US-75
  • US-84
  • I-2

The number of vehicles on the road at any given time, the number of drivers speeding, the condition of the road, the posted speed limit for these roads and more could also factor into the likelihood that a crash will occur. Other counties with dangerous roads include Bell, Lampasas, Falls, McLennon, Coryell, Blanco, Travis, Burnet, Hays and Gillespie.
